THE HISTORY OF THE AK

The AK or Avtomat Kalashnikova is a Soviet assault weapon designed by Soviet engineer Mikhail Kalashnikov. The AK-47 is the first model created in 1947 of a large family of assault rifles, of which the most widespread model is the AKM. Its low cost, reliability, ruggedness and ease of maintenance quickly made it extremely popular.

The AK-74 is an assault rifle introduced by the Russians in 1974 to replace the AKM with a smaller caliber weapon. The purpose of the AK-74 is to offer the same advantages as the American M16.
